Frozen Music is a response to the popular adage: "Architecture is Frozen Music". This language reinforces the master architect myth and suggests a questionable level of control over the built environment. But what if Architecture embraced the complex, aleatoric, and stochastic nature of sound? What if listening were an integral element to the discipline of architecture, with the power to shape the way bodies occupy space?
Supported by The Miller Hull Partnership and the 2024 Bob Hull Research Grant, Frozen Music brought binaural architectural field recordings into the studio for group listening and sketching exercises. Sounds and drawings were displayed in an impromptu hallway gallery.
